Surprise Proposal at Mellon Park | Pittsburgh PA | Erika + Nick
When Nick slid into my DM’s on Instagram and said that he was looking for a photographer to capture his surprise proposal to his girlfriend during a day trip to Pittsburgh to celebrate her college graduation, I squealed! YES I can do that! After many emails, texts, and a phone call, we put together the perfect plan to surprise Erika as he popped the question he has been dying to ask her.
Erika and Nick work together at her family’s business, so he began the day of surprises by getting them off work early so they could go home and get ready for a fun date in Pittsburgh. They arrived in the city and enjoyed lunch and drinks, then headed to Mellon Park to walk around the beautiful gardens. Well little did she know that I was there waiting to capture the moment! They circled the beautiful blooms hand in hand, when Nick stopped and grabbed her hands. Tears immediately sprang to Erika’s eyes as Nick got down on one knee with a diamond ring, and asked her to be his wife! Of course she said yes, but I’m pretty sure Erika was in a state of shock for at least ten minutes! Nick pointed me out climbing across the rocks with my camera, and we sat down on the steps and just took deep breaths for a minute, haha! She really could not believe that the moment she had waiting before had really happened! We chatted and relaxed for a bit, then had the most fun taking pictures around Mellon Park. The best part of capturing a proposal is that the portraits you take following the big moment are nothing but pure JOY! Erika and Nick were laughing and smiling ear to ear the entire time, and joy just radiated out of them! And I don’t blame them – the reality of becoming engaged to the person you are choosing to spend forever with puts you on cloud nine!
After our time together, Nick had one last surprise waiting for his bride-to-be. He had dinner reservations for the two of them that night, but what Erika didn’t know was that their families were also joining them to celebrate! She walked into a room full of their loved ones cheering and clapping for the newly engaged couple, and if that’s not the icing on the cake to a surprise proposal, then I don’t know what is! Congratulations Nick and Erika, I’m so happy I could capture this incredible day that you will remember for the rest of your lives!!
