This blog post might be revealing my inner literary nerd that you may or may not have known existed. But from the very first time I watched the Winona Ryder version of Little Women, I dreamed of living in such a glorious home as their beautiful Orchard House. Envisioning the life of four sisters who felt real as could be, I longed for the adventures and simple living that took place at their beloved home surrounded by nature’s glory. And then…. I found out that Louisa May Alcott wrote her novel Little Women based off of her own childhood with her three sisters, in their very real Orchard House in Concord Massachusetts. And that it is a place you can go visit, and learn all about life in the Alcott household! So, I did just that! I made the journey from Connecticut to Concord and spent all day at Orchard House. It was like stepping back in time! So much of the home has been preserved over the years, with the majority of the original furnishings and decor from the Alcott family. You could almost hear the sounds of their conversation with neighbors Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson echoing off the parlor walls. What an incredible piece of history to experience, and an item crossed off my bucket list! Photography was not allowed inside of the home, but here are some images of the beautiful Orchard House from the outside!
Bronson Alcott built the Concord School of Philosophy behind Orchard House, one of the first adult education centers in the country!
Lush greenery and florals cover the surrounding property
HOW I REALLY FEEL ABOUT BEING HERE!!!!
