CKP Weekend Wrap-Up!

Well we have been in San Diego for a week already, and slowly but surely it is starting to feel like “home.”  We’ve taken advantage of every opportunity we can to go out and explore a new place, whether it’s one of California’s many beautiful beaches, a restaurant, or something right around the block from our apartment!  Even figuring out the grocery store routine is an adventure in itself!  Speaking of the grocery store, it should be a law that EVERY city have a Trader Joe’s within easy access.  I’m pretty sure I could live in that joint.  We’ve kinda sorta gotten the hang of navigating the city a bit, and by we I mean Ben because I have only tried my hand at driving around here once so far.  You’ve gotta be aggressive to make it as a driver in this city, San Diego traffic is like rush hour 24/7!  It is scary!  I’m working on my aggressiveness so I can keep up without getting mulled.

We had a few days to settle in when we first arrived before Ben began his orientation for his new position at Rady Children’s Hospital, and he began his first shift this week!  I would just like to take this opportunity to brag on my husband for a minute, because he is incredible.  Quitting your job and hauling it cross-country to start a new job in an unfamiliar city is not easy!  He has handled the transition so well though, and he is the reason we have even been able to take advantage of this traveling opportunity.  Ben deserves a ton of credit!  If I had to do what he is doing, they’d probably find me huddled under the registration desk crying after the first hour.  Nurses have hard jobs!

This weekend we got to discover some of the magic of Balboa Park and Little Italy, and both were just incredible!  I had heard people talk about Balboa Park, but what I didn’t realize was just how HUGE it is.  It is home to San Diego’s zoo, endless museums, gardens, hiking trails, and theaters.  It is a little world all in it’s own.  We only scratched the surface, so we will definitely be going back – with a game plan, and more time!  We also loved Little Italy, which if you love some good Italian eating, then this is the place for you.  Buon Appetito, and a happy Monday to you all the way from the sunny state of California!

One of the beautiful fountains at Balboa Park!  I could sit here and relax all day!

In case you missed this awesomeness last week, we had some Youngstown friends visiting in San Diego!  George and Krysten are SD-natives who live in Youngstown, and they just happened to be in their hometown for a few days!  They gave us a first class tour of their incredible city, and it was so cool seeing some of their favorite places to visit.  My favorite was the coves of La Jolla where the sea lions hang out on the rocks!  Those guys are adorable.  Fun fact:  Mount Soledad is a beautiful point overlooking the city, and this is where George proposed to Krysten years ago!
