After a decade (!!!) of photographing weddings, I have come to appreciate what wedding days are really all about. In today’s era of Pinterest boards overflowing with inspiration and picture-perfect ideas, it can be easy to think that those are the things that make a marriage beautiful. Each weekend though, my couples remind me what it’s really all about. Justine and Andy were no exception, and I knew from their first email to me that their day was going to be something special. Andy said that they were interested a photographer who would capture their vibe and who he and Justine are as a couple, and not just pretty photos. Say no more!!! These two planned a wedding celebration at the McCullough family farm uniting Justine’s family history and Andy’s Hawaiian roots, and they called this Hawaiian inspired wedding day “Farm Aloha.” Seeing their vision come to life on the most PERFECT August day was so incredible. I think Justine’s father Dave summed it up best during his toast at dinner when he talked about this land that the McCullough family has cultivated for over 6 generations. He planted the fields of sunflowers that were the backdrop to his daughter’s vows….the jars of berry preserves that were favors for each guests were from berry bushes on the farm, along with bags of sunflower seeds from the farm as well. The land is rich with hard work, cultivation, and patience, and these same principles are the foundation for Andy and Justine’s marriage. Andy’s Hawaiian heritage intertwined throughout the day in so many lovely ways: in the flowers around the necks of their family and loved ones….in the ukulele serenading Justine down the aisle….in the ring of Hawaiian koa wood his bride placed on his finger.
Justine and Andy’s entire wedding day was laid-back and stress free, truly designed for them to enjoy spending quality time with each other and soaking in every moment. Nothing felt rushed, everything felt intentional and full of meaning. As the colorful sunset lit up the evening sky and the newlyweds walked around the farm hugging their guests, I felt so grateful to bear witness to such a day. Mr. and Mrs. Rozal, I could not be more honored that you asked me to tell the story of your wedding day! Your legacy is just beginning, and these images will help you share it for generations yet to come.
