Charity & Mike – A Rainy Love Shoot

My good friends Mike and Charity were married in 2008 but did not take engagement photos before their wedding, so we planned a day to have a photoshoot!  Who says couples can only get their photos taken when they are engaged??  We planned all the locations we wanted to use for the shoot, and it felt like Christmas morning when the day of their shoot arrived!

Have you ever noticed that things don’t always seem to go as planned?  It’s a funny little fact of life, I guess.  As I parked my car at our meeting place in Mill Creek Park, the first raindrops plopped down on my windshield.  All you photographers out there are probably familiar with that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when the raindrops start.  BUT here’s the thing that I’m learning when things DON’T pan out the way I planned:  JUST GO WITH IT.  As soon as I see that Plan A is not going to be a possibility for a session, the wheels immediately start turning to figure out Plan B.  You don’t need to panic!  I’m not panicking!  It’s all good!

Mike and Charity were looking pretty bummed as the raindrops fell, but I was confident that we could still work with the less-than-ideal weather conditions to get some great portraits.  Clouds = perfectly diffused light, and the misty rain added a romantic feel!  Check out some of my favorites from their session :)

Get it girl!!  She is b-e-a-utiful!!

Can they be any cuter?!?

All in all we had a GREAT shoot, despite the rain!  I love the dewy glow the rain created, so romantic!

Photographers:  just remember that when an element you can’t control, such as the weather, puts a damper on your plans for a photo session – you can adapt and learn to work with it  to deliver your clients great portraits!  Flexibility is something I’m still working on, but I am definitely getting better at keeping my cool when Plan A is no longer an option.

P.S. The Robertshaws just purchased their first house, and I could not be more excited for them!  Here they are on moving day :)

Love! These are two of the best people I have the privilege of knowing. Their love and passion for each other is beautiful and Justin and I have so enjoyed their friendship and watching them grow as a couple. So glad they finally got the pictures they deserve.
